About Laser Assisted Hatching

Laser-Assisted Hatching (LAH) is an advanced technique used along with In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) to enhance embryo implantation. It involves using a highly precise laser to create a small opening in the outer shell of the embryo (zona pellucida), making it easier for the embryo to attach to the uterine lining.

In a natural pregnancy, the embryo must break out of its protective shell (zona pellucida) before implanting into the uterus. However, some embryos have a thick or hardened outer shell, which can make hatching difficult, reducing the chances of successful implantation.

Laser-Assisted Hatching (LAH) is a specialized technique performed during IVF to gently open the zona pellucida, increasing the likelihood of implantation and pregnancy. At Kailash IVF, we utilize cutting-edge laser technology and expert embryologists to improve fertility success rates, offering new hope to couples struggling with infertility.

LAH is particularly beneficial for:

  • Women over 35 years of age: As age increases, the zona pellucida can become harder, making hatching difficult.
  • Poor embryo quality: Embryos that show slow development may benefit from assisted hatching.
  • Elevated FSH levels: Women with high follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels may have embryos with tougher shells.
  • Couples with previous IVF failures: If embryos failed to implant in earlier IVF cycles, LAH may improve success rates.
  • Frozen embryos: Embryos that have been frozen may develop a hardened shell, making LAH useful.
  • Unexplained infertility: When no clear cause of infertility is found, LAH can enhance implantation chances.

The laser hatching process is done when the embryo is in the lab (usually on Day 3) as part of an IVF treatment. The key steps include:

  • Embryo Selection: High-quality embryos are selected after fertilization in the IVF lab.
  • Laser Application: A specialized laser is used to make a crack or hole in the shell of the embryo. It is a quick process that helps the embryo hatch out of the shell.
  • Embryo Transfer: The embryo is then carefully transferred into the uterus for implantation.
  • Pregnancy Testing: A pregnancy test is conducted after two weeks to confirm implantation success.
