The Division of Neonatology involves in the Department of Pediatrics, focusing its attention on patient care & research on medical problems during infancy and neonatal diseases that persist into later life. We specialize in providing innovative healthcare & conducting research to recognize and treat medical problems of the neonate.
The Neonatology Department has made significant contribution towards promotion of community-based newborn care & technologies for maternal newborn health at the national & international level. The areas of specialties in Neonatology include Integrated Management of Neonatal & Childhood Illness, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Newborn Nursing, Neonatal–Perinatal Database, and Essential Care for every Newborn.
Neonatal Intensive care Unit, or an intensive care nursery, is an intensive care unit specialized to care for ill or premature newborn infants. The NICU combines advanced technology & experienced healthcare professionals to provide specialized care for the tiniest patients.
We have a 15 bedded NICU. It is equipped with 4 dedicated neonatal ventilators, 4 Bubble CPAP machines, Neonatal monitors, Servo-controlled warmers. It is equipped to handle all neonatal emergencies e.g. Neonatal seizures, Prematurity, Meconium aspiration syndrome, Birth asphyxia, RDS etc. All kinds of neonatal surgeries are undertaken. Facilities for bed side X-rays & ultrasound are available. Neonatal Intensive care is a relatively new pediatric discipline.
We provide respiratory support to more than 100 babies per annum. The overall success rate approaches 98%.
